The desert trip from Marrakech is the perfect trip for people who want to explore Morocco from the south to the north. The trip will start from Marrakech and ends at Tangier. From Marrakech, the tour heads towards one UNESCO World Heritage Kasbah: Ait Benhaddou before visiting the Hollywood of Africa: Ouarzazate. We will explore many Kasbahs during this trip. After that, the tour will head to the dunes of Merzouga where the visitors may camp and enjoy time with nomads. The tour will head north to Fez after we explore the apple city, Midelt, the Middle Atlas Mountains and forests, the Barbary monkeys, and lovely cities Azrou & Ifrane. Desert trip from marrakech, Itinerary

Day 01: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Gorge

After we meet up, our 5-day desert trip from Marrakech starts. We will drive across the mountainous landscapes of Tizi N’Tichka, which is more than 2 kilometers above sea level. We can stop by some villages and landscapes along the way in case you want to explore something. For example, at Telouet, we might stop to explore the Kasbah of Pacha Glaoui, who are notorious for his wealth, power, and evil.

Before reaching Ouarzazate, we will explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ait Benhaddou Kasbah via Ounila Valley.

The latter site is a fortified city that captures the sights with its unique buildings. Ait Benhaddou is very popular as filming sight for Hollywood blockbusters.  After we reach Ouarzazate, we will explore the luscious oasis of Skoura, one of the biggest oases in Morocco. From there, we will head to Dades Valley across a road marked with its palm groves and Kasbahs. The warm colors of the landscapes are surely something to admire.

The journey will take us to Tinghir after that. The latter town is one of the most important urban areas of the region. Then, we will head to Toudra Gorges to witness the beauty of the highest canyons in Morocco.

Day 2: Todra Gorges – Tinejdad – Touroug town – Erfoud – Erg Chebbi (Merzouga)

After having a hearty breakfast, we will continue our desert trip from Marrakech by taking a walking tour across the palm groves of Tinghir.  Afterward, we will head to Erfoud, the town of fossils and precious stones. We will head after that to Tinjdad where we will have our lunch, crossing Touroug. After lunch, we will head to Merzouga where we will be close to the dunes. After visiting Rissani, we will stop at a hotel in Merzouga. After leaving the unnecessary luggage in the hotel room, we will head to the desert camps in the middle of Erg Chebbi Dunes, where we will spend the night. Riding the camels will be the transportation from there onward.

Erg Chebbi dunes are all that you imagine when you picture exotic deserts, especially when riding a camel. We will spend time with nomads who can keep us entertained with their spiritual desert music. Under the super-starry night sky.

Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fes

At the beginning of the day, we will leave Merzouga and head to Rissani to explore the market that used to host sub-Saharan caravans. After that, we will travel across many cities like Errachidia, Erfoud, and Aoufous before we leave the Sahara region. Traveling across Ziz Valley, we will head to the apple city of Morocco: Midelt. After lunch in this lovely city, we will go to the Middle Atlas forests at Azrou and Ifrane where we can meet Barbary Monkeys. At Fez, we will head to the ancient Medina, where we will explore medieval landmarks and stay at a cozy riad for the night.

Day 04: Fes – Volubilis – Chefchaouen

On the fourth day of our desert trip from Marrakech, we will have a half-day guided tour of the spiritual and cultural medieval Fez. After lunch hit the road for the Roman ruins of Volubilis for another cultural tour. Volubilis hosts the remains of some magnificent Roman buildings and arches. Heading north, we will drive across the picturesque countryside of the Rif region. After some time, we will stop at the Blue Pearl of Morocco: Chefchaouen. After a hearty dinner, we will relax in the hotel or riad for the night.

Day 05: Chefchaouen – Tangier

In the morning, we will go on a guided tour across the Blue City, discovering all the chill colors that put the psyche in a peaceful state. We can go shopping since Chefchaouen has some of the most amazing markets. Don’t forget to bring your camera to Chefchaouen, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to capture some amazing pictures. After lunch, we will head to Tangier, which is one of the richest and biggest cities in Morocco. You may spend the rest of the day exploring Tangier on your own, visiting the coasts, the Grand Kasbah, and the old market. End of the desert trip from Marrakech.
