Itinerary of Fes to Marrakech & Desert 

 

Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Ziz Valley & Merzouga

On the first day of the Fes To Marrakech And Merzouga Deser In 5 Days tour, we will be leaving Fez to our destination Merzouga. We’ll also visit the town of Ifrane which is known as the Switzerland of Morocco before we stop at Cedar Forest. It is the largest woodland area in Morocco where different kinds of birds and Berber apes live. Azrou, which is located in the Middle Atlas Mountains, will be a place to stop at. During the driving, it will be amazing to travel through the fascinating panoramic views.

On our way, we will travel through Midelt (where we’ll have lunch)and Ziz Valley where you enjoy the beautiful gorges, and palm trees, and take some pictures. Continuing the journey, we will travel along Erfoud and Rissani before we arrive at Merzouga. You’ll have a warm welcome with a Saharan mint tea before you check in your accommodation which will be at a riad.

Day 2: Merzouga – Sahara Desert & Camel Trekking

Exploring Merzouga begins after having breakfast at your accommodation. Riding camels, we will head toward Khamilia village where Gnawa people live (originally come from Sudan, Mali, and Senegal..). You’ll observe their interesting lifestyle and listen to Gnawa music followed by having a Berber pizza for lunch. After a short break, the tour continues to visit the Alouite dynasty of Rissani where there are the largest souks (authentic markets) in Morocco. Rissani is also encircled by 360 ksars (fortified towers). In this town, you will enjoy walking through the flavored souks with vegetables, all kind of spices, traditional clothes, and furniture, garments… . You will be enjoying the sunset over the dunes on camelback when you are back to Merzouga in the evening. Guided by a camel man, you will enjoy exploring the sand dunes till you arrive where you will spend the night camping in a nomad tent. You will be served dinner at a clear sky with endless stars.

Day 3: Merzouga – Todra Gorges & Dades Valley

In the early morning, you’ll wake up to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the largest dunes in Morocco. On your way back to Merzouga, you will admire the brilliant views of Erg Chebbi sand dunes. In Merzouga, you will have a nice breakfast and a warm shower before we make our way toward Rissani, Tinghir, and Todra Gorges (the highest and narrowest in Morocco where visitors enjoy hiking). After having lunch at the core of the gorges, we will continue the journey driving toward Dades Valley. The magic sandcastles and monkey toes ( a mysterious rock formation) are points of attraction in Dades Valley. Here, you will have dinner and breakfast on the following day. From your fancy accommodation and guesthouse, you will enjoy the wonderful landscapes of Dades valley.

Day 4: Dades Valley – Boutaghrar – Skoura & Ouarzazate

Today’s program begins with leaving Dades Valley and driving through the Road of Thousand of Kasbahs where you’ll have the opportunity to take some pictures and visit a nomad family while enjoying the landscapes. Kalaat M’Gouna is the next place we visit. Kallat M’Gouna is also called the Valley of Roses for its beautiful roses and the production of rosewater, perfume… . After that, you will visit Kasbah Ameridil in Skoura.

You’ll have lunch at a local restaurant enjoying the breathtaking views in Ouarzazate. The Hollywood of Africa is what Ouarzazate nicknamed. It’s served as a spot for shooting many movies. Here, you will have a visit to Cinema Studios. Last Christ, the Mumy, and Gladiator are a few examples of the several movies that were shot in Ouarzazate.

You’ll spend the night at a riad plus you’ll be served a delicious supper.

Day 5: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou & Marrakech

On this day, the tour proceeds toward Marrakech. Before that, we will explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. Continuing our journey, we will be driving through the well-known pass Tizi N’Tichka, which its elevation is 2260 meters high over the fascinating High Atlas Mountains before we reach Marrakech. One of the interesting that you will do on your way is to observe the process of extracting Argan oil by Berber cooperatives women.

When you arrive at your destination, Marrakech, you will drive to the airport whenever you have to be there. Here, the tour from Fes to Marrakech and the desert comes to an end.
